TSJS 03 April 2011

The Thesis Social Jam Sessions keep growing strong and are not about to stop anytime soon. The line up keeps growing better and more diverse. We will keep introducing acts to the youth of Soweto and Johannesburg at large.

This instalment is filled with diversity thanks to the DJ's and Live acts. Ill skills will be gracing the TSJS stage for the first time after their return from London where they were doing their 24hr mixtape ...project. This dynamic duo of Uno July and Jimmy Flexx will turn the stage into their home and make the crowd their guests. The Layders are back to showcase what they have for the masses from their forthcoming album on Soulcandi records. It must go into saying that this is the platform that got them to be signed and it’s good to have them grace us with their grown sound.

DJ Okapi's sound is that of African vibes and bubble gum all mixed with Vinyl. He is slowly making a name for himself in the Johannesburg scene and has already played at Dirty Secret and the 70 Juta opening. His selection is sure to school people and get them all nostalgic. Zakes is the hip hop/downtempo DJ that has been in the scene from long. Those that know him will tell you that he was there when DJ Mbuso was still starting out. He will be bringing along his “A” game for the TSJS crowd. Paledi and Kid Fonque don't need that much introduction. Both their selections are eclectic and will keep the crowd happy.

Comedy will be provided by Mpho "Popps" the second season runner up of so you think you funny. This young lad has been blowing up the scene... ask David Kau. As the one of few comedians to get a standing ovation at the Black Only comedy, we are proud to have him grace our stage. Opening for him will be Donovan.

Okapi
Zakes
Paledi

Straight outta the UK.

Multi-instrumentalist, dj & producer Simbad is very well respected amongst his peers in the world of good music. His incredible range as a producer spans from big band jazz to heavy Jamaican dancehall reggae, bouncy hip-hop to sick broken-beat & techno. Having worked & played with the likes of Tony Allen, Marque Gilmore, Keziah Jones, Julien Lourau, Ron Trent, Talvin Singh, Bugz in the Attic, Jimpster, Robert Owens (to name a few) he’s releasing music as Simbad (other projects & aka's being Heal, Twitch, Beatkeepers, Dreadpoet, Loose Ensemble, Marathon Men, Mowgly & Les Barons) and his tracks are always highly playlisted worldwide (from Gilles Peterson to Laurent Garnier to many radios & dj’s on the planet).

Simbad travels internationally as an accomplished dj, spinning his blend of HipHop, Deep House, Broken Beats, Dubstep, Disco & more... As this man puts it himself "it's just quality booty music... I love to spread the vibes & feel the crowd... And a good dancefloor needs always ladies, right ?..."

Simbad’s solo album Supersonic Revelation on Raw Fusion (featuring various talented singers), has being already praised as a modern soul classic by various dj’s & magazines. As if he wasn’t busy enough he’s also working with Karizma as Izmabad & finishing’ various projects from Japan to Puerto Rico, as well as hosting his radio show on Déjà vu Fm Radio in London.

Thesis Social Jam Session March 2011

The home of uncensored entrainment, Thesis Concept store is back with the Thesis Social Jam Session. These monthly sessions happening every first Sunday of the month, bring together like minded people that enjoy the creative world and being inspired by people.

This installment brings Soweto a semi Pretoria (PTA) invasion with DJ Bubbles at the helm of it. Mr House Tunes has switched up his style for and plays more rare soul, fun...k, downtempo and bring with him a world class selection. Shadowing him is the band, Travellin' Blak who flow with some hip hop rhythms fused with poetry all played to the sound of a live band. Our continued partnership with the Comedy society of PTA brings out Vusi and The Hit man. They will keep us in stitch's as they ease down the volume.

Bilal will be opening for the masses with some laid back grooves of trip hop, soul and lounge. Chuck D (Deep Soweto) will be representing the ghetto youth with some new track and a hyped performance. He is our answer to all the cluttered hip hop acts of these days. DJ Kenzhero makes a welcome back with a set that will be legendary and not what people always hear from him. This is going to be a musical journey of note... Expect the best from this musical master.

OY!

Oy_Laundry_Montreux Jazz Festival 2010 from PATLALA VIDEO on Vimeo.

Bio:

Iasked my friends to mail me some childhood memories. i received many funny and beautiful, poetic and absurd stories: a girl who would box around the corner before walking because it might be dangerous to walk and bump into some dangerous being. a boy who believed the actual idea of clouds passing by was to provide us with a beautiful image. the danger of the toilet witch who would grab you and pull you down into the toilet if you sat on it too long after flushing. and many more.. so there i go with some playful little songs. (as it appears on here myspace page)

Oy uses a mixture of sounds and squeaks, frog ribbits and human voices. Her style is a mixture of soul, hip hop, spoken word, improv, electronic, jazz, classical and rock. (...) This album would need thousands of listens before one could hear every nuance, but it’s definitely worth your time!'

QB Smith (Warm Days) (UK)

In barely a few short months DJ / producer / song writer QB Smith has clocked up work with the likes of Atjazz, Mark de Clive-Lowe, Jose Carretas, Monique Bingham, Simbad and Brian Temba.

How does someone manage to work with so many great people so quickly? Truth is that QB has been doing this for a while, with the likes of Spinna, Karizma, and Louie Vega declaring themselves past fans - it's just the name that's new. A gift from South African friends, QB stands for Qhawe la Bantu. For QB, it's a baptism in his home away from home.

The new single 'Selfish Skies' features a stunning remix from Atjazz and has already been snapped up by Vinny Da Vinci and the House Afrika label
But while it's the house mixes that you're most likely to hear this month in the clubs, Warm Days, is actually QB's soul, jazz, hip hop and broken beat collaborations project, bringing in some of the best musicians, singers and MCs from the world underground.

With those interests, it's not surprising that beyond his DJ sets in the house world, at more eclectic affairs like Thesis Social Jam, South Africans can expect to hear the full range of diverse and downtempo stuff that influences QB's Warm Days project, including a whole heap of music you will not hear anywhere else.

January Session...

Happy New Year Jammers

Hope you guys are well rested and ready to go into the New Year with us and help us grow the brand into something that we can all be proud of. We have a lot in stock for you guys this year and we hope to have your continuous support in the sessions and the clothing brand. Thesis is for all… We are thesis.

We don’t normally have sessions in January, but we have made an exception this year. We have an international host that goes by the name of Toffee from our further homeland Switzerland. Born in South of Switzerland, Toffee has been travelling and working all over Europe and in Southern Africa with many well known and talented musicians and many other interesting projects. This culture lover is making street culture alive in so many different ways back in Switzerland. His set will range from jazz, ethiojazz, old-school hip hop, funk, nu funk, afrobeat and little bit of house. Supporting him on the night is a crowd favorite and back by popular demand is Otto the Jam Jar man. He is known to pull out some classic tunes out of his bag just for the TSJS massive. His set will leave your jaws on the floor. The live act for the night is Meat The Veggies, a band that has grown in stature and stage presence since the first time they graced the stage at thesis. Meat The Veggies have been with us since the sessions were in store and were the first band to play at thesis. We welcome them back minus a few members but the soul and core of the group is still there.

The host with the most is AD 85 and he will be accompanied by the crew selector wireless-g.

Please note that since this is a once off January session, the price at the gate is also once off.

Paez Shoes in Stock

Lightweight canvas shoes known as alpargatas first appeard in Argentina around 1830 among rural workers. We can thank the gauchos—those lonely, mythical, nomadic characters—for spreading the shoes's popularity. Traditionally made only in black or white, alpargatas were comfortable but lacked a certain zest. That got three friends thinking: why not make alpargatas with fun colors and patterns? So that's what they did. PAEZ shoes are produced using fair labor practices and, unlinke some competitors' shoes, are still made in Argentina by the Argentine people who love them so much.
