Junk On Thesis

If the calender is anything to go by, then the next first Sunday of the month is drawing closer and there’s nothing else to chew over but the Jam Session. Palm-slap to the forehead, anyone? This time around though, we are bringing you something fresh and different. A new flavour for your taste buds while staying true to the original.

In its 3 years running; the Thesis Social Jam Sessions (TSJS) have been regularly held at the THESIS Concept Store, with the pure tenacity of bringing something innovational to the hood-burb. The aim has always been to offer something new to the Soweto street culture and pep things up in a way nobody has ever experienced. Amid the jams; various bands, artists & djs from in and around Soweto, the rest of Mzansi and other parts of the world have graced us with their noteworthy talents. The Jams have been an astounding success and undeniably made a mark in the South African youth subculture.

On the 2nd of October 2011, TSJS is pairing up with another equally successful trailblazer - JunkOnMe Family. Neat idea; we know. Infact it’s been a long time coming!

The JunkOnMe outfit is best known as one of the pioneers of the house music scene in Soweto. They’ve been throwing kick-ass parties for the past six years and counting, and have hosted the likes of Vinny da Vinci, Culoe de Song, Black Coffee, Christos, China, Claude and Vikter Duplaix, just to name a few. A concept born out of urban chill, the JunkOnMe Sunday Sessions kicked the scene into a “chilled-and-hectic” mode - with the movement being recognised as the ultimate place to listen to fine, clean and proper (yeah, it’s one and the same) house music. The Junk family is currently running the 30 Something’s Assembly - a bi monthy celebration of the lifestyle enjoyed by today’s black middle-class youth, offering an all round experience that’s more than just intoxicants. Comfortable, social, stylish.

Now we’ve been deep in the doldrums of our minds trying to get this joint event going. And 10 meetings, 55 emails, and 227 phone calls later, the JunkonMe/Thesis Social Jam Sessions collabo is now a reality.

In celebration of all things summer; pack those baskets ‘cos it’s picnic time! Our outdoor inspiration is the huge cultural village in Power Park, so get ready to lay out your blanket and set stage for an awesome line-up.

Vikter Duplaix is in the country and will be rockin’ the mic; along with the new, freshly grounded Maleh.
On the decks; Party People’s Dj Khenzero; Playkaystat on the hiatus, TSJS resident Wireless G; the smooth-rolling Nhlangano and the deep insider, Dj China.

• It’s a picnic folks, and obviously an all day event. Rock up from 12 noon.
• Joburg is hot but there’ll be some relevant gear @ the Thesis Pop-up Store
to help you escape the heat. Cop yourself some.
• R50 gives you right of entry.

A beautiful park, awesome peeps, stimulating music, good food and thirst quenching ice-cold ones. Come join us, there’ll be fresh air too.
