The Sharpeville massacre occurred today, 21 march 1960, in Sharpeville. Demonstrations were happening to eliminate the whole thing of walking around with a passport. South African government then enforced that on native black people. The police opened fire on the crowd of protesters: killing 69 people. It was a tragic moment of history in South Africa. Basic human rights issue, that taunts us even today.
That’s why we have our holiday: to commemorate the struggle; the fight & death for equality. So STAY UP my people!
